1 ‘Food supply can be temporarily disrupted.’ (a) What is food supply?[1] (b) How can food supply be disrupted through (i) natural factors? Explain your answer.[4] (ii) human factors? Explain your answer.[4] 2 ‘Sometimes even when food supply is available, there still are people who lack access to food. Describe, using relevant examples, how this situation may arise.[6] 3 How does globalization and trade influence access to food in DCs and LDCs? Explain your answer.[8] TRADE : more imports to increase food supply eg. Singapore More exports which will generate revenue eg. Thailand sells rice to the rest of the world TRADE BARRIERS : restrict food supply eg. Gulf War : Iraqis suffered
GLOBALISATION: increase variety of food + fusion food + fast food ……give examples!
4 Describe how the lack of access to food has affected (a) people in DCs [3] · malnutrition amongst poor in DCs eg. Homeless and unemployed in USA – live on streets · malnutrition due to eating disorders eg anorexia, bulimia
(b) people in LDCs [3] malnutrition eg. Rural areas in India due to joblessness/poverty prolonged malnutrition MAY lead to starvation eg. Ethiopia (famine due to drought)5 Do people in DCs suffer from malnutrition? Explain your answer. [4] YES…eating disorders eg. Bulimia and anorexia Also, there are poor people in DCs too eg. Homeless, unemployed ppl in USA 6 Differentiate between the cause(s) and effect(s) of malnutrition and starvation. [6] CAUSE : SEE ANSWERS ABOVE (eg. Eating disorders, poverty, etc) EFFECT : diseases/illnesses suffered eg. Rickets, etc + death
7 Do you agree that international organisations alone can help eradicate the problem of hunger and malnutrition in the world? Explain your answer. [8] Discuss role of international organisation eg. 8 What are some measures that DCs can employ to ensure food security in their countries? Explain your answer. [8] Explain food security.Stockpiling – explain and give examples Food subsidies – II Increasing food production : eg. Green Revolution, GM food is possible (because of increased food production)
9 What are some measures that LDCs can employ to ensure food security in their countries? Explain your answer.
